me in the piazza

I'm a writer, publishing both as SJ Rozan and, with Carlos Dews, as Sam Cabot. (I'm Sam, he's Cabot.) Here you can find links to my almost-daily blog posts, including the Saturday haiku I've been doing for years. BUT the blog itself has moved to my website. If you go on over there you can subscribe and you'll never miss a post. (Miss a post! A scary thought!) Also, I'll be teaching a writing workshop in Italy this summer -- come join us!

Five-week countdown

Starting today, I have five weeks left at home (including the Rancho, my summer home away from home even if it's a new home) before I leave for five weeks away. Travel anxiety is just a soft buzz now, but it's growing. Of the five weeks, it's three days in Rome, two weeks in Assisi (and if you're struck with a sudden urge to study with me, you can still register and because you're a reader of this blog I can get you a discount -- contact me at, three weeks in Mongolia (two of those trekking in the mountains in the west) and a day in Seoul (where they suddenly don't believe in evolution). This is a complicated trip: six flights (not including the internal Mongolia flights -- I think there are two of those), two completely different wardrobes, three currencies (and that's assuming I can get by with no money on my three hour layover in Moscow) and some inordinate number of time zones.

Why am I doing it?
