Without cable, I'd be stuck with esentially no TV choices this evening. Instead of listening to the Shrub make vast pronouncements about things he knows little about in any depth greater than a millimeter, I can watch reruns of Law & Order while I read Blindfold Game by Dana Stabenow. I read her Kate Shugak novels, but sort of lost track with other reading. This one is really good. It's got the CIA, Coast Guard, terrorists--lots of suspense, not to mention strong female characters. And I haven't lost track (yet) of who is who. I started it this morning in the chiropractor's waiting room and am almost halfway through.

So, the chiropractor was in the morning, and YD was not available for lunch at either end of the parish. I went to the dump recycling center to leave off the old newspapers, then got to Arby's a bit before noon. The woman working the counter noted that I was earlier than usual--that I generally got there just before her quitting time.

This is a good book, and I have ended up spending most of today reading it. I don't think I'll finish it tonight--I need to get up for work tomorrow.

Fabian has developed the habit of parking himself on top of the CPU, where he can get his head scritched while I am typing or surfing away. But this evening he's facing the other way. And I'm not going to scritch that.

Tomorrow is supposed to be semi-rainy again. And cold. Forty-something and rainy is not what one can call pleasant weather. At least I don't have very far to walk in it. And it is definitely better than seriously below freezing temperatures.

Not only am I not listening to the "biggie" this evening, I shall probably not devour the paper and read every word about what was said, not only by Georgie-boy but by every other Washington politician who can get near a microphone and camera.

You know, the Constitution calls for the President "from time to time give to the Congress Information of the State of the Union, and recommend to their Consideration such Measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient . . ." Nowhere does it say he must appear in person.

Oh well--at least I've got a good book to read while I watch the L&O reruns.
