Today it was weeding again, but my side yard is starting to look more like yard than an abandoned field.

The dewberries have set their berries, but they're not yet red--and won't be, except for the ones I miss. And there are also some stray blackberry bushlets in this part of the yard. Those will go, although the ones in the front yard are getting a year's reprieve.

I filled up two trash barrels with weeded stuff--and these containers were packed full. It's handy having my cane out there--the handle makes a great trash-masher. Lady hung around by me most of the time--I guess she likes the company.

Last night the raccoon visited again. There was some movement of the metal trash can, but he didn't get it open or knock the barrel over. He did manage to unhook one end of the rather taut bungee cord. Smart little critters, aren't they.

What with one thing and another, today has ended up being a totally at-home day. I got some books semi-organized--meaning sorted out into geek-reading and mind candy, each genre in a separate container. And I need to order a couple of geek books that sound interesting.

The evening news reported some sleet in part of New Orleans, and said that there might be more tonight or tomorrow. I still remember another year where a late cold snap left snow on the azalea blossoms.

The news also reported that the St. Tammany Parish (mine) coroner and his family had to be rescued by the Coast Guard because of some kind of boating emergency. That's YD's boss, and she said the staff would no doubt be giving him a very hard time about it. I'm anxious to see what the papers say.

I can tell already that I'll sleep well tonight! And, based on the weather forecast, it will no doubt be a two-cat night.
