Before I left work I left myself all sorts of notes about where I was in processing each topic/box. That way I should be able to get going again quickly next time I go in to work.

When Mary took office Louisiana's bonds were just one step ahead of junk bonds. She managed to get things totally turned around with a wide variety of techniques--principal of which was consulting with a panel of experts. (It helped that there was a new "reformer" governor.)

I also discovered that her (LA) House seat that she had to give up to run for treasurer was won by her younger brother Mitch. He is currently Lieutenant Governor, and is running again. (That's the one that YD and I know from "Brigadoon.")

Other than that, it was a really quiet day. When I got to my building I discovered that the outside door was locked. No problem--I have a key, and I was just reaching to get it off the hook on my bag when one of the student workers appeared, and she already had her key out. I commented on the fact that the secretary usually gets there at the crack of 8:30, and the student said she was taking today off.

Well, of course. A lot of people took today off--it's the first day of Jazzfest! And a lot of people will be "sick" next week on Thursday--which I think is a popular day with all the "locals."

I've been to it only twice. The first time the big attraction for me was the presence of Pete Seeger AND Peter, Paul, and Mary.

The next time was when OD's husband's jazz band led off on a Sunday in the Jazz tent.

I didn't see anyone on this year's venue that would make me try to figure out how to handle the standing around and all the walking. There are some performers where I would make the effort, but not this year.

This morning I had to turn the furnace on. I don't think I'll have to tomorrow, but I'll still wait till it's hot enough that the fan cycles on because of the ambient temperature before I shut it down for the season.

This weekend's plans? It goes without saying--weeding and maybe house-tidying.
