Somehow, I managed to get out of the house at just the right hour to miss any slowdowns, and I arrived at work just before 8:30. The building was unlocked, but only one of the doors. I opened the other three, then went into the library.

I got two boxes completed. "All" that was needed was the transfer of the files to the acid-free folders--which then had to be labelled with a bunch of stuff. The second box had 82 folders. That's a lot. (The first box had more than 50.)

Tomorrow YD will pick me up about 10:30 for my 10:45 appointment to (finally) get the injection to ease the sciatica. I've had it before and it's no big deal. And it works!

This evening I need to get started on another book so I have something to read before and after the procedure. I'm looking at Relic, by Doug Preston and Lincoln Childs. I read another book by them and really liked it. I have at least one more book by one or both of them sitting around the house, but I learned that this is the first of several with the same protagonist.

Driving in this morning I spotted an 18-wheeler pulled over by a white car with red and blue flashing lights. It was headed west.

My guess, based on previous observations of similar situations, is that the guy had too heavy a load and had been caught by the Weights and Measures police. Because the westbound part of the Twin Spans is made of (metaphorically) spit and toilet paper, it has weight limits. The westbound span closes for a couple of hours almost every night for inspections. This is often followed by lengthier closures (at low traffic times) for repairs. The paper the other day had a picture of the Twin Spans immediately post-K, and the westbound span had almost every section knocked awry. The good sections went to replace bad ones on the eastbound span so it could become a two-way route for Interstate 10.

I had a note from my Rochester friends reminding me to bring my passport. They plan on taking me to see Niagra Falls, and it's MUCH easier to get back into the U.S. with a passport. I am getting so excited about this trip. Anybody know off-hand what links will tell me what can't be in carryons any more?

(I plan on asking the Canadian border agent to stamp my passport--that will add one more to my "collection.")

The weather radar suggests there is a chance of a shower tonight. I hope so--it will cool things down.
