My Incredibly Unremarkable Life
A Journal (more or less)

There's nothing wrong with an ordinary day--it definitely beats a day when you miss a step, fall down stairs, and break a hip--in Kenya. (That was two years ago.)

Anyway, my drive in to Newcomb was uneventful, I was there early enough to grab a parking spot right across from the library, and I managed to finish the preliminary inventory on the rest of the boxes. Next time I go in I'll be putting things in the acid-free folders and writing the folder titles with a little more care than when I'm re-using old ones. There is a tremendous sense of satisfaction in getting to this point.

I think it might be exam time at Tulane/Newcomb--the patterns of students walking from there to here (and back) seemed different today. I should really go to the university's website and take a look at the calendar so I know when the place will be REALLY closed down.

Generally I read a "geek" book while I eat lunch, and today was no exception. The material I was reading cited a couple of journal articles. Then it hit me--those journals are right there in the library! Duhhh. So I located them and copied them. They don't charge me for copies because I'm a volunteer. (They probably wouldn't if I was on the payroll.)

Now I'm looking at a longish weekend. No classes tomorrow, and since there's a bunch to be done at home I don't think I'll go in to Newcomb. I do have some grading to do and I've set myself the goal of having it done by Monday. Once the exams are over at 12:30 Wednesday I'll have to really buckle down, grade them, then calculate the final grades. I should really look at the Xavier calendar and see the deadline for posting final grades to the school's web site.

And then I won't have any significant excuses for not getting stuff done around the house and yard.

You can't win them all!
