That's right--when you work at a university there are some good-sized breaks.

Today I finished up the current collection and mentioned that I was about done to the archivist. Lo and behold, a small (very) collection appeared for me to start on when things get going again January 2.

The archivist passed out some goody bags and mine had Three! large gourmet chocolate bars and about a dozen home made chocolate cookies. The cookies didn't make it out the door. I shall try not to binge on the chocolate. (Famous last words.)

Right after lunch it began to torrential and the campus roads began to flood (of course). I had parked on the high side of the street right in front of the building. The water was only ankle deep where I stepped off the curb to cross the road and I had no problems getting home.

Unless you count the section of interstate where it was raining so hard that the cars were borderline hydroplaning. That's really exciting when you're driving about 50 mph. At one point the rain was so hard that the interstate speed was down to 35--and there was a significant number of cars on the side of the road waiting out the heavy rain.

Luckily, it was raining normally when it was time to cross the lake. I would not care to have to drive across the 2-lane bridge in a torrential downpour, although occassionally I have not had a choice.

I now have almost two weeks before I return to work. Maybe I'll get more yard work done. If tomorrow isn't too cold, weeding would be easy after today's rain. (But so would napping.)

I picked up my prescription on the way to work, before 7 AM. The pharmacist looked like he was at the end of his shift! (He was.)

I don't know if I can afford the drugs--a ten-day supply (2/day) cost me eighty cents. I felt really stupid paying for it with a credit card, but I didn't know how much it would be till I saw the receipt.

This evening I need to make a to-do list for this break. That way I'll be able to gauge my guilt for not getting all of it done.

Now I need to put out supper for woods critters.
