I wasn't planning on going in to work again this week, but it doesn't matter since the library will be closed tomorrow and Friday so they can FINALLY (we hope) finish fixing the air conditioning.

Gas was (about) $3.93/gal. when I filled up this morning on my way in.

Our summer student worker was there today and the student who is our secreatary hasn't left for Boston yet, where he'll go to law school this fall.

The little raccoons are looking up at me when I talk to them through the screened (open) window. Their parents ignore me and nosh up the cat kibble, after first moving the dish down a step or two. They move it with their little paw-like hands (or is hand-like paws?) They do not have opposable thumbs--and it's probably thank goodness for that!

The possum waits till they are gone, then eats the fresh kibble I just put in a bowl on the top step of the porch. I suspect it's the one that I rescued from the metal garbage can. He(?) doesn't bring any others around.

The cats sit on their perches and watch all this going on. They recognize that the raccoons are bigger than they are, and besides, there's always cat food for cats inside.

I got the trash can to the front of the house a bit late yesterday, but the big company guys took it today. I haven't got quite enough nerve to just put it out for them all the time and save the money I pay the private hauler.

But he doesn't charge much, and he's become a friend and a source of others who might do odd jobs around the place.

A book I ordered only about three days ago arrived today. It's for YD--and I know the author.

Well, I've got a super long weekend ahead, and I shall probably not get anywhere near the things done that should be done. Oh to be a Sleepless, a la Nancy Kress.
