Got to work today nice and early. In fact, I made it in under 45 minutes. (It's about a 35 mile drive.) I had gotten out early, but no earlier than my usual "early." Must be a bunch of people vacationing.

Anyway--I got to the street where my building is.

And there are barricades across it and several cops standing around.

I was politely informed that the street was closed today for paving.

I think the last time they paved it was probably at LEAST ten years ago. (Yeah, it's in lousy shape.)

I areed that was definitely needed, but where was I to park? The cop said McAllister. I looked at him blankly. I used to know where all the streets were when I was a grad student there and did lots of walking. He waved his hand in a general direction. I said there was just one problem, and grabbed my crip card off the visor.

He then gave me specific directions on how to get to McAllister, and said he'd be by in a few minutes to give me a lift to my building, which he did.

I figured I could probably manage to get back to my car, and thanked him profusely.

Fast forward ahead to about 8:30. People are coming down the street that is to be paved and parking. What is going on?

A cop happened to be in the building and I asked him. He said the paving machine broke down or something and wouldn't be here till tomorrow or Wednesday.

I plan to call work Wednesday to check on the great paving project so that I know if I'll have a nearby parking place Thursday or Friday.

Incidentally--it was fortunate that there were some bleacher seats between my car and my building. My ambulatory appartus did not like the hike in the (very) hot sun and was very happy to sit down halfway there.

That's what I get for coming in to work really early. No good deed goes unpunished.
