I Have a Cold

This is highly unusual for me--I can't remember the last time I had one.

I slept late this morning, and then fell asleep again for a major nap.

I've taken cold pills but I'm not convinced they really do anything. Well, maybe ease up the stuffy head feeling and slow down the sneezes.

Looking at the weather radar did not improve my mood. The remnants of Fay are heading for us, loaded with rain and "brisk" winds.

So I pulled myself together and made* groceries, along with quite a few others.

WalMart continues with its "upgrade" or whatever. Now they're redoing the grocery aisles. The stuff is in the same places, but the aisles are a bit less wide. Used to be they were three baskets wide. Now they aren't quite, and when someone is restocking a section there has to be turn-taking for the shoppers.

I guess it will be okay when they have everything in its final location (till the next refurbishment) and the items are in the same place as the week before.

One very welcome improvement is little benches where you can stop and rest. There didn't used to be any place if you needed to sit down.

When I got back home I put the empty trash cans in the back of the car. Usually I don't bring the empty back until I am leaving a "full." Tomorrow morning will be plenty soon enough to decide whether I need to put stuff into the garage.

At least it's not a hurricane.

Well, I heard on the news that Obama has picked his vice-presidental running mate.

Once again I ask--"What is the purpose of a nominating convention?"

One of these days (when I have nothing better to do) I may write a letter to the editor--or the TV networks.

There is one very positive improvement at WalMart--the books are a LOT more accessible. I bought two today. One is a Catherine Coulter and I think the other is a James Patterson about the Women's Murder Club.

I could really do without this cold.

*The expression "make groceries" comes from the French word faire, which has the implication of get or buy, among other meanings. It's a New Orleans expression, along with "go by" a place--meaning to visit.
