I too stayed up late. And I was rewarded.

My grandson now has a president who lookes like him.

(I wonder when my granddaughters will have a president that looks like them.)

And the country has made a change in direction.

Thank the deities.

I am sure that yesterday the woman said "morning" for the old fridge pickup. But no one showed. I called her about noon and she said afternoon. That makes a lot more sense--gather up the old stuff at the end of the day.

So, I essentially lost a day to more or less productive activity, although taking a nap is never unproductive.

The same guys who delivered the new one came to get the old one. I told them about the trials and tribulations of finding the water shut-off control.

They didn't use a hand truck for getting it outside--they each had a criss-cross webbing harness on, and the harnesses were connected, so that they lifted the fridge and carried it out, supported by the webbing connecting the two men. Very clever.

I transferred the frozen foods that had been in the garage freezer into the new fridge.

So, aside from realizing that I need new carpet in the kitchen, I am all set. At least in the refrigeration department.

The weather is so nice that I have about decided to take the next two days off this week and do yard work while I am more of less in the mood. I especially want to get some weeding done on the area across the street, now that I have harassed the parish employees into getting my bridge back in place. That's the least I can do.

The election results have certainly improved my mood! In addition to Obama's win, Louisiana re-elected Mary Landrieu to a third term as Senator. Seniority counts in Washington, and she's getting up there.

The Landrieus are a very political family. The father was mayor of New Orleans. Mary--one of seven children--was elected state treasurer, and then made the bid for Senator and won. Her brother Mitch is currently state treasurer. There's an aunt (I think) who has been on the School Board.

Still up in the air is U.S. Representative for a New Orleans district. The incumbant won the primary, but because the original date for the primary got postponed because of Gustav, there has to be a final election. In Louisiana you have to have more than 50% of the vote to win. Yesterday, therefore, was the primary runoff for the Democratic candidates.

Still on a high from the election results.

(I'll bet some of the White House staff is underwhelmed at the thought of the new puppy who will be living there.)
