The local newscasts have featured a LOT of remotes from Miami and environs. This evening there was a spot from Key West.

It appears that Floridians are not quite used to New Orleans-style celebrations and enthusiasms. But they are learning fast. And I wouldn't be surprised to see New Orleans listed as a possible future vacation destination.

Meanwhile, the fervor continues in the area. Mixed in with the Go Saints! cries is a mayoral election tomorrow. It's also an election for coroner and a bunch of other offices. (Louisiana has elections on Saturdays because more people have a chance to vote.) I seem to recall about a month ago items mentioning the need for absentee (or early) voting.

So tomorrow is Election Day (in Orleans Parish), the day before the Super Bowl, and the start of the Carnival season. Some of the outlying areas have had parades already, but when you have a lot of groups parading, you have to start several weeks ahead.

My day was a typical one--incredibly unremarkable. In the afternoon I went to WalMart for some stuff--especially critter food--and came away with the makings for a Who Dat cane. I found lovely a gold-colored decal alphabet set. My black cane now says Who Dat on the side that faces people. I doubt that any local person will consider that strange--especially if they are dressed in black and gold. (I wore my "A Woman's Place is in the Dome" t-shirt today.)

I keep thinking that tomorrow is Sunday--but we haven't had Saturday yet.

At least it didn't rain today, and I think that tomorrow is also supposed to be non-rainy. If, however, it looks threatening, I'll have a good excuse for postponing yard work.

Sidell has a parade tomorrow night--Mona Lisa and Moon Pie. (How many living outside the South know what a Moon Pie is?) It started some years ago as a walking parade that meandered through Old Town. It has grown into a "proper" one with floats etc.

So, excitement is building on two fronts--SuperBowl and Mardi Gras. Now if the weather would quit threatening rain (and sometimes following through on the threat) it would a whole lot better.
