I "conveniently" overslept this morning, and that took care of the possibility of heading in to work.

Last night's news started the reluctance, with the report of (probably) major traffic "changes" as the second half of the new I-10 bridges across Lake Pontchartrain was opened.

Since the eastbound traffic had been travelling over the (new) westbound lane, there was some major restriping to be done.

(Anybody wonder why I don't don't use the Interstate route, aside from the fact that (for me) it's three miles longer?)

Based on the noon news, it was not a seamless transition.

I figure things will be straightened out by Monday.

But I'll stick with my regular route. Some day when I have time to kill, I'll use the new bridges.

Instead, I hopped into my newly smooth-running (and easily steerable) car and headed out to WalMart for critter food and things for humans.

When I got in my car yesterday I got a bit of a shock when I saw the odometer reading about 87,000 miles. I keep it on distance between fillups, so hadn't really been paying attention to the total mileage. But I've had the car almost eight years now, so that's a reasonable mileage.

Nothing interesting at the store--I found a close-by parking spot, and I got a motorized cart that didn't die on me.

I found what I was looking for, and probably forgot something I should have looking for.

But the critter larder is well-stocked.

I was up a bit late last night finishing Blood of the Demon. IMHO it's even better than "Mark."

If you read yesterday's comments you'll see that the book is headed for Afghanistan. My "honorary son" is taking care of that.

I think the weekend is supposed to be non-wet. I should really get the yard trash burned--and then start raking up more of it!

Now that I've finished reading Blood I need to decide which book is next. I think I'll go with an N. K. Jemison book I bought a while ago--The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms. It's a thick one, so it will keep me occupied for a while. I read about the book (and the author) on the Magic District web site.

It's gotten dark out--I'm sure my skinny-tailed and masked critters are wondering where the food is.
