A Journal (more or less)

The (New Orleans) noon news (and a couple of hours more) were taken up by the (successful) landing of a crippled plane.

Needless to say, that closed down most of the other air traffic for a while.

And when the TV channels got tired of showing that, they showed a really nasty weather front bringing really nasty weather to the New Orleans area some time tonight.

From where I live, I don't need to be excessively concerned (famous last words--I hope not).

I (finally) called Cleco (Central Louisiana Electric Company) and asked if, when there was nothing much going on, they could replace the "shade" on my dusk-to-dawn light. It fell off (probably broke a bit) during Katrina. Without it, the light is really focussed on its immediate location, instead of being diffused over a wider area.

The person who took the call seemed stunned by my "whenever" attitude. But it's been more than five years, and I can wait a month or so more.

Along the way I discovered that the remote (TV control) wasn't working. Probably batteries, thought I. But much to my horror I discovered that I was totally out of batteries, especially the AA that I needed.

So . . . into decent clothes and off to Walgreen's, where I replenished my AA supply.

My TV remote is working again.

This evening the bold raccoon who often shows up even before I finish putting out the food went a few steps further. His (hers?) whole body was on the porch, and it was looking at me as I poured out the food--then pushed it closer using my cane. (Canes can be really useful for stuff other than walking.) I wonder if this will be a mama next spring.

It's really interesting how they (and I) adhere to the deal--I provide food, they don't fight, mess with the cats, or try to get into the house. In other words, we respect each others' territory.

Better quit chit-chatting and catch the detailed weather report.
