Dry--and not quite as Hot

Guess my body is getting acclimated to the 90s--it doesn't feel nearly as hot as the last week or so.

I am not complaining.

About mid-afternoon I went out "hunting" for cartons to put books in. The two large boxes of (mostly) mind candy books I sent to the N.O. UU church's library got a good reception, according to the minister.

I'm currently digging through copious amounts of non-fiction now, and needed boxes for storage.

I was ready to spend money on boxes, but I did much better than that. I was in Office Depot and spotted a big stack of semi-smashed cartons obviously destined for the trash person. They were a nice size, and I "liberated" two or three of them--after first checking with a staff person. (I think my carton problem has been solved.)

So now I can start trying to find the floor in the room that was once a bedroom and is currently a computer room. There are a LOT of history-related books in here.

As much as I would like to teach again, I think that is in the past. Not my choice, but that's how things work out.

No rain today, so it's still hot.

This afternoon I discovered (with absolutely no surprise) that raccoons think the scraps of yesterday's wet cat food are VERY tasty. Why scrape out the dishes, when there's a couple of very efficient cleaning machines waiting on the porch?

When I finish with the computer I'll toss out the evening "cookies."

It will probably be tomorrow or the next day before we all get an idea of the devastation from Irene. As I said before, I worked in NYC a couple of blocks from Battery Park and the Stock Exchange. On hot days I'd hang out there (Stock Exchange) during my lunch hour--not out of financial interest but because it was air conditioned. The majority of the building I worked in (at 2 Rector St.) was not. I'm not sure if that building is still there--9/11 was down the road between my workplace and the ferry landing.

This evening's project is finishing up a Janet Evanovich piece of mind candy--Wife for Hire. I started it this morning and it has just over 200 pages. I don't think finishing it will be a problem--there are only 20 pages left to read.

And that's it for yet another IUD.
