Everyone was talking about tears last night. The Reverend Jackson's, for instance. Some of my friends in IM or on blogs (I refuse to say 'blog-o-sph*r*') wept tears of joy.

Me, I nodded, respecting their relief and rapture, but too burdened with worry for his safety, for the country he stands to inherit in 76 days, for it all.

Today, I was finally moved to tears by this quote from the BBC:

Nelson Mandela, South Africa's first black president, welcomed Mr Obama's victory as a sign of hope for everyone.

"Your victory has demonstrated that no person anywhere in the world should not dare to dream of wanting to change the world for a better place," he said in a letter of congratulations.

I tried to read it to SpouseKitty and my voice broke midway. Even now, I'm still trickling tears over my smiling cheeks.

Happy now? I know I am.
