What is it with arrogant leaders? You know my opinion of the current administration, but even the previous had his own share of arrogance. The one before, George Herbert Walker Bush, was surprisingly controlled, but that is what I expect in a president, at least as far as national leadership goes.

As for their personal lives, I don't care who they are schtupping. I'm voting for a national leader, not a Boy Scout troop master. I have my own moral sense, yes, but I don't see any relevance in how it applies to international trade, treaties, or being Commander-in-Chief of a frightfully powerful military force.

Still, there seems to be a rather obvious correlation. The same hunger for the Oval Office is exposed in personal ... ahem, conquests as well. If that is the cost, so be it. If that is the vent, the way to keep the president from going off to some idiotic crusade or some edifice-quest, it's better one than the other.

I have hopes for the next administration, yes. I hope that he is a good leader, in the small as well as in the large. In that he is a family man, in that he is married to a whip-smart and razor-sharp partner, I want him to be faithful so as to keep her counsel, and to model a good role for his daughters.

But should he stray, I don't treat it as any measure of his leadership ability. I'm not vetting him as my daughter's date, after all.

PS: Rumour has it the Secret Service has expanded its charter to include procuring services of that nature should the president request it. I can see good points - this allows them to vet his companions, encourages his safety, and allows them to keep better track of him. Supposedly, this dates back to the turn of the (twentieth) century where one Chief Executive was forced to hide in a closet with his friend when his wife was due in.
