Ariadne stared at the open window. On it, between wafting curtains sat the cat.

"So where are we going tonight, Josiah?"

"Someplace different."

"Not like last night? Darn, I liked being a moonfly."

"Are you ready?"

She smiled, scrunched her nose and clenched shut her eyes. He climbed into her lap and purred.

Ariadne relaxed and looked around.

"Wow, you're big!"

"No, I'm the same size, Ariadne. You're just very small now. About the size of a mouse."

"Ohmigod!" sprang from her mouth as she backpedaled, tripped, clambered to her feet and started running.

"Don't worry. I won't eat you."

She crawled under the bedding. "No, you'll just toy with me!"

"I never stopped."
