Those few of you who read this regularly will note by the time that I am not in the city watching archery right now. There are two reasons for this:

1. After checking my research notes, I discovered that the type of archery I need to see is NOT the early morning session, but the post luch session. Phew.

2. I had to take my car in this morning to have $1100 worth of repairs done if I want to be able to drive to work on Monday. Yup. $1100 freakin' dollars.

This would be as good a time as any to curse on the internet, but I am not as pissed off about this as I am relieved. You see, the compressor is broken on my car, and the mechanic could hardly believe I was able to drive the car at all, not to mention home from work and around Yonkers yesterday evening (when I first started hearing the funny noise). Also, the repair cost includes fixing an antifreeze leak and replacing the water pump, which seem to actually be responsible for my air conditioner malfunctioning. So it's not like I'm going to fix this and STILL have to fix the air conditioner. Plus, much as tightfisted me hates to admit it, I have some money in my OK savings account that I have been saving for just such an emergency, so I won't even have to carry a huge credit card balance.

The other reason I'm relieved is that I have found the most incredible mechanic to fix my car. It is the same guy who fixed my parents' van when they were here. I knew from that that he was quick, available on the weekends, and fairly honest, but he's even better than that. When he was calling suppliers for my compressor he got me one for $250 instead of $500. And he was honest enough to tell me that I could actually drive the car ok if he only fixed the compressor, though I would need to get the other things fixed down the road. AND he drove me home, so I didn't even have to walk the mile and half back to my apartment. It wouldn't have been unbearable, but it sure saved me a lot of energy and time.

Plus, when I go back to work on Monday, I'll know that the car is FIXED. Finally.
