Plants and Television
Previous Entry :: Next Entry

Today (well, Saturday) I bought a plant.  Two plants, actually, different kinds of leafy green things that both look a little like the above picture.  One is in my room and the other in our still-in-progress living area/study.  It's amazing how much more homey an eight inch plastic pot with a bunch of leaves poking out the top can make a room feel.

Because I'm goofy like that, I decided to name my plants.  And because I'm seriously weird, I decided to name them after the two main characters in my new favorite TV show, MI-5 -- Zoe and Tom.

[image disabled for archive purposes.]

Zoe, the plant in my room is, obviously the woman on the left. Tom, the plant in the study, is the man in the middle. (The other man is Danny, another main character. I didn't want to buy three plants.)

I have a horrible track record with plants.  Usually, I forget to water them until it is too late, and I've managed to dump a few other potted plants on the floor.  But in my brief visit to Susan and Laura's on Thursday, I saw Susan's unbelievable philodendron, which she has had since our freshman year in college and twice moved into larger pots.  It made me sort of jealous.  Besides, plants are supposed to be good for air quality, which since we don't have central air (and thus a ventilation system other than opening a window), might help the sort of stale feeling my room often has.  (Yes, I open my windows, but the floor plan of our apartment is such that the air doesn't circulate well through my room even with the windows open.)

So, if I happen to mention Zoe or Tom in a future post, be advised that they aren't people.  (Unless I'm talking about MI-5, but I'll certainly make sure that's clear.)
