The Blog is Back!

OK, I was feeling kind of anti-blog for awhile... thoughts were running through my head like:
I have nothing interesting to say.
I'm too scared of offending someone to say something interesting.
Why am I writing something there's no way I'll ever get paid for?

I'm going to pretend it was a side condition of my second-year-grad-student-itis and move on.  But I do promise to be a bit more candid in the coming weeks.  Though be warned, just 'cause I feel one way one day doesn't mean I feel like that the next.  I am mercurial that way.

Do I want to do a quick summary of the last few weeks? Hmmm....
No!

I will say that I had an interesting Spring Break, mostly nice weather (it did not snow in OK, though it did in New York, I'm starting to think Weather.com is not all that accurate more than 2 days in advance) and I like my sister-in-law-elect more every time I see her.

There are a couple of interesting things that have happened in the last few days:
1. I have applied to be a co-sports editor at one of New York City's premier blogs, Gothamist
2. I have accomplished the ignonimous feat of finishing dead last among the Steen family in both the men's and women's NCAA basketball pools. (I think only my mom has done that before.)

Hopefully, fact 2 has no bearing on fact 1.  (I think the fact that I'm a very recent New Yorker might have more bearing on the Gothamist decision, actually.)  I will make no excuses for my poor showing other than that I just believed too much in the Big XII, particularly in the women's bracket, and I discounted UConn too much in both brackets because, well, because I hate them.  Incidentally, the OU women were the last team to even put up a fight against the Huskies in a title game. (And if the refs had actually called a foul every time Sue Bird knocked LaNiesha Caufield to the floor it would have been even closer.)

If you don't know anything about Gothamist, they are worth checking out.  They're very into finding all the weird, wacky things about everyday life in the City that I find so interesting.  It's not a paying gig, and I'd have to be nice when I talk about the Yankees, but it would certainly up my profile in the blog world.  Anyway, like I said, the fact that I've only been in New York for not quite two years (and don't technically live in the City) may work against me, so if it happens, great.  If not, I'm not going to boycott them.

It's also <trumpet fanfare> baseball season again!  This year I have succumbed to the fantasy virus and am playing fantasy baseball with my Dad and some of his fantasy football buddies.  (I am the only girl in the league.)  As of today, the end of week 1, my New York Subway Surfers are fifth out of ten teams.  I've got some firepower: Barry Bonds and Jeff Bagwell, as well as my own beloved Redbirds' Jim Edmonds and Scott Rolen.  I thought I had good pitching, too, but so far every one of my starters has pretty much sucked it up.  I'm hoping things will improve next week, especially since I've picked up a few players in hopes of boosting my scoring.  More updates as warranted.
