For my bro:

The Conference Board said Thursday that ts Composite Index of Leading Economic Indicators dropped 0.3% in July to 116.0, following a revised decline of 0.1% in June. Last month was the first time in more than a year that the index had lost ground.

The index is closely followed because it is designed to forecast the economy's health over the coming three to six months.

The Bush administration, which is counting on an improving economy to bolster the president's re-election chances, suffered a setback in the all-important area of job creation the past two months. The economy created just 78,000 jobs in June and an even smaller 32,000 jobs in July.

I specifically picked this article because it comes from the USA Today and not the NY Times so I can't be accused of picking from a liberal paper.  Plus it's an AP piece anyway.

Okay ....

And ...we're having ribs (Simpsons reference)

Ah, it feels good to be back.  My modem decided to arbitrarily go on the fritz last Friday, so I decided to replace it and with one thing and the other it didn't get here until today.  But it's fixed now, so I'm happy.

I started my new job on Monday, which is good so far, not that one could tell after four days.  Nothing against Sarah Lawrence, but it's really nice to be back at a large university with enough people and resources to offer services like computer stores, and real human resources reps.  Plus, getting to walk around Washington Square everyday is pretty cool. (Although I'll get back to you once the weather gets cold.)

Things in the apartment are slowly starting to get organized.  The most immediate benefit of having my own place has been that I'm sleeping a lot better.  I think it's not just that it's quieter (my old bedroom was right next to the bathroom and we had very squealy faucets) but that I'm not so stressed about who did/didn't clean or were occupying space I wanted, or feeling like I had to hide in my room to watch TV or keep my music really soft.

So I guess I can't complain.  Life, at the moment, is good.
