Brrrrr....

So according to weather.com it "feels like 0" in my neck of the woods. Needless to say I am wearing about 6 layers of clothing (ok, I exaggerate, only two, except on my feet I have 3, 4 if you want to count the lining in my boots). And I'm still cold. There are too many menopausal women in this office.

Yes, I am at work, but trust me, I've already done everything useful there is to do this morning. Exams are finishing up, and since my job is primarily dealing with observations of classes and there are no classes, um.... well, there's a lot of extra time on my hands right now. And I can only spend so much time entering our library into a RefWorks database before I either go cross-eyed or get a cramp in my fingers. (Though RefWorks is a seriously cool idea and I wish I'd had access to it in my research paper days.) As a matter of fact, Emm and I are trading off "working from home" and being in the office this week. Stupid me to pick the unbelievably cold day to have to actually go out. Ah well.

Oh, yeah, back to the weather. The weird thing about the weather forecast for NYC this week is that every successive day is supposed to be 10-15 degrees warmer. It could be almost 60 on Thursday! But that's good since another big storm is coming; it will just rain and not snow. (There is snow on the ground today, but only about 1/4 inch. The only reason it hasn't melted is it's SO DURN COLD.) Since I'm flying home early Christmas Eve morning that's good news. But the Tulsa forecast says other than Christmas Eve, which is supposed to be pretty chilly, it's going to be in the mid to upper 50s the entire time I'm home. So much for those new sweaters I just bought.

But, weather and fretting about getting up at 5 to catch the train to the airport aside, I'm finally feeling the Christmas spirit. I finished my shopping, although I'm still knitting madly (next year, I'm not waiting until the last minute to decide who's getting knitted presents). But knitting's a pretty Christmasy activity, especially if you plug in the Christmas tree lights and sing carols to yourself while watching the football games. (OK, that last bit might be a Steen Christmas thing -- like trying to find "Die Hard" on TV and laughing at the dubbed over expletives. Yes, my family is weird.) And it's kind of nice to get to a Christmas holiday without all the end of semester stress that used to come with it.

So, there probably won't be a lot of communication from me for a while unless I get really bored at work on Wednesday. Have a lovely holiday!
