One stone. Two birds. It's metaphorical; don't call PETA on me.

I wrote this to my cousin and it's a pretty good summary of what's been going on as of late. Notice the subtle allusion to said cousin's BIG NEWS in the final paragraph.

R,

So I had almost finished this really long email about various things on Friday, only to lose it because my Juno webmail session expired.  I guess that should teach me not to write personal emails at work.

Anyway, I'm getting used to the true New York City winter experience -- i.e., massive amounts of snow piled up on the sides of the streets and sidewalks but very little of it that you can actually walk through.  But I sold my car [Editor's emphasis, as is this: ] about 90 minutes before the "blizzard" hit last Saturday so I didn't have to do the digging out the car and trying to parallel park between the snow piles thing -- which I definitely got enough of the last two years.   I've been lucky enough to avoid most of the major subway disasters of late.  There was a big fire last weekend that has shut down one line completely and seriously restricted the express line that runs parallel to it -- it is the only line near one of my friend's apartments so she's been doing a lot of extra walking. And there are certain other lines that seem to mess up as soon as we get any precipitation.  The funny thing is, my friends all made fun of me for moving so much farther out from Manhattan but lately I can get places far easier and faster than they can.

I can't get a good feel for the [OU men's] basketball team this year.  I don't have cable in the new apartment so the only games I've seen were the Duke game and the Tulsa game -- not exactly our best performances, although there were flashes in the first half of the Duke game where I thought "wow, we could be really good."  Obviously we put it together last week, but those were home games and as the Iowa State game proved, we still have to learn how to win on the road.  I do feel like since we have so few guys that really played together before this season we still have problems getting in sync sometimes -- and we also seem to live or die on whether or not Lavender can get the ball inside or throws up stupid shots in an attempt to win the game by himself.  But we should at least make the tourney and maybe even win a few games.  I'm thinking next year may be our big chance, though.

I don't know if you ever read Bill Simmons's columns at ESPN.com,  but he's been gushing about Tony Allen [former Oklahoma State player, now a NBA rookie for the Celtics] all season (he's from Boston so he's a big Celtics fan).  It's kind of starting to seem like all those people who said OSU was really going to miss Allen this year were right, huh? [Alluding to this] Of course we'll see what happens once you get OU and Texas at home (and Texas without whats-his-face this time).  And better to go through this now than late February, I guess.

I'm ready for baseball season to start now.  (I think there are a lot of people in New York who feel that way, given the current state of sports around here.)  You should come up and see a Yankees game sometime -- although you'll probably have to plan in advance if they are playing anybody good.  I think the musical version of Monty Python and the Holy Grail (called "Spamalot," I believe) will be open on Broadway by late spring.  There was an article about the trial version playing in Chicago in Newsweek and it sounds hilarious (Tim Curry is playing King Arthur!).  Though I would imagine it might require advance planning to get tickets for that as well -- I mean, that's a musical even my brothers would go see.

Anyway, I've rambled on enough for now.  Say hi to your fiancee for me (my parents were clueless, by the way).

Love,
W
