For The Last Time Bill, Liberals Don't Hate Christmas -- We Just Hate You

Yeah, I know, who actually thinks O'Reilly really knows what he's talking about anymore, but this just amused me. Apparently the latest Liberal plot to ban Christmas is coming from department stores. OK, tell that to the Old Navy in bluer than blue Brooklyn, which was playing Christmas carols already when I went in there yesterday.

Anyway, on to why I decided to double post. Daily Kos (Warning: Left-leaning political site) pointed out this interesting little quote from a past War Against the War Against Christmas:

And it has become pretty general. Last Christmas most people had a hard time finding Christmas cards that indicated in any way that Christmas commemorated Someone's Birth. Easter they will have the same difficulty in finding Easter cards that contain any suggestion that Easter commemorates a certain event. There will be rabbits and eggs and spring flowers, but a hint of the Resurrection will be hard to find. Now, all this begins with the designers of the cards.

Care to guess the source and year on this? Anyone who says 1921 and noted Anti-Semite (OK, maybe he did something with cars, too) Henry Ford ... um, you're kind of scaring me. Anyway, when I went to the store to find a wedding card for my friends that actually are atheists, I could hardly find any that didn't mention God in some way, so I guess those card designers really got the job done.

This may be a good time for my annual reminder that Xmas is not "crossing the Christ out of Christmas" as I heard more than a few people say when I was growing up in the Bible belt. The Xmas abbreviation came about because "X" is the Greek symbol "Chi" which means "Christ" (or is itself an abbreviation for Christ, I'm a little hazy on that). So Xmas is just an abbreviation, not a liberal atheist plot to stop people from referring to Jesus.

Everyone just calm down. There are so many other things to be all upset about right now.
