The first sign it was going to be a good weekend was when I succesfully intercepted the new chair UPS was delivering to my apartment on Friday. After the whole passport drama, it was nice to have UPS work properly for a change. Plus: new chair, which is very comfortable and fills up that empty corner of the living room so it no longer looks like I'm only living in half the space.

The second sign it was going to be a good weekend was when I took a chance on the new pizza place, since it was on the same avenue as the post office and discovered it was literally across the street from Sunset Park. (OK, yes, I should have known this from the address, but I'm still sorting out the geography around here.) I carried my slice and drink (3.50 total!) over to a nice little section of grass and watched the sailboats in the bay for a very relaxing meal.

The third sign it was going to be a good weekend was when I got home and flipped on the TV to discover the Cardinals-Brewers game. This was the first time I'd seen them on TV in New York since we swept the Mets at Busch in the early part of the season and I just knew it was a good omen. Sure enough, we won the game -- even if by then the rain delay in Florida was over and NYC was switched back to Marlins-Phillies. It was a must-win game for the Cards, who despite their tendencies to give their fans heart attacks this season, always have found a way to win when they absolutely had to. Mostly because of Albert "25-game-winning-RBI" Pujols, but still, it is the one factor about this team that actually bodes well for the post season.

As a capper to the weekend, the Twins won the Al Central in dramatic fashion, though perhaps not in the way we tend to think of when we hear that phrase. Batgirl has the whole, unbelievable story (with pictures!). The only bad thing about this is I now get Yankees-Tigers and Mets-Dodgers on my TV, instead of either of the two teams I actually care about.

I have other news, though I'm still holding off on it until I get the exact details nailed down. It does pertain to my writing career, it is good news, and it's not what you are thinking right now (unless you are one of the people I've already told). But it, too, is a good sign.
