Snow at last!

OK, while it was coming down on Valentine's Day it was mostly sleet -- little tiny balls of ice being blown against your face by a piercing wind in a not at all pleasant fashion -- but once it stopped actively precipitating the white stuff was quite snow like. I have enjoyed stomping through it in my snow boots for the last couple of days (it's good exercise too, like running on sand). It somehow makes the cold much more bearable.

Yesterday, the grocery store at which I was purchasing my lunch began to play "Electric Youth" by Debbie Gibson. I hadn't heard that song in at least 15 years, but I still knew it well enough to know that they were playing the long version off the album and not the radio edit. Then I started thinking about how Debbie Gibson was sort of my generation's Britney Spears (I remember being jealous of a friend getting the Electic Youth perfume and T-shirt for her birthday), but with dignity and talent. She wrote her own songs, after all, and went on to a respectable musical theater career (at one point playing Eponine in Les Mis on Broadway). It makes me wonder what we're going to think of Britney fifteen years post pop princessdom -- though one wishes she'd go away right now so we could start the timer.

That little bit of musing almost managed to distract me from the horror of someone stealing my Dr. Pepper from the breakroom fridge. Almost. Other than that one little blot, I've actually been in a pretty good mood the last few days. I may even go with Lala to look for our scene in Music and Lyrics this evening. Plus, I have Monday off, which means I get to leave work early today. It's always good to remember the reasons why you like your job.
