Why yes, I am one of those infuriating bloggers who only posts when nothing's going on.

Like today: I just finished sorting my work email inbox down from 350+ messages to 9. And that is exactly how exciting my day has been. It's also a good measure of how busy we've been this semester, since the majority of those emails were from February.

I have managed to schedule my birthday party (and the first party I have thrown in more than two years) right on top of a Rad Unicorn show (plus the band Gel sings backup for is playing on the same bill that night) -- which is kind of a problem since both members of Rad Unicorn plus several of their most loyal fans make up half my guest list. It's not quite the comedy of errors that my ice-skating party turned into (it got so unseasonably warm that the ice melted and they closed the rink the day of the party), but I'm starting to feel like one of those sitcom characters that throws legendarily disastrous parties. (Mary Richards was who immediately came to mind, which just proves I watched too much Nick at Nite when I was a kid.)

(Hey, look I've gone parentheses happy again!)

Even though I feel like I've barely had a spare moment to sit down, I'm not really that stressed out. I had a great time last Saturday: I had writing group and then met Lala at the Met to see the Jasper Johns show, which was much cooler than I anticipated (somehow all I'd ever really seen of Johns was the hatchmark series; some of his more recent stuff was really interesting). And it was fun to spend time with Lala again -- I've missed having her around every day. We were supposed to go see the new Stoppard play a couple of weeks ago but she came down with the flu, so I went by myself. (And it was really good; I could do a few pages on all the reasons why it was good, and thought-provoking, and a lesson in how to incorporate historical events and intellectual arguments without making your characters preachy and pious, Aaron Sorkin, but I barely have time for this entry as it is.)

Besides, being this busy is distracting me from the impending removal of my wisdom teeth on the 19th. Not looking forward to either the experience or how much it's going to cost me (my dental insurance sucks), but I will be glad to finally have it over and done with.
