Big cheers to my fellow Sooner, Jonathan Horton, and his new silver medal! I almost went to bed during the Shawn Johnson interview after the beam competition, but decided to stick around. Because it was high bar, and the announcers kept going on and on about how he had added all this difficulty to his routine, coupled with the fact that I had been hearing about the beam results all day but not one word about high bar, I was convinced he was going to fall every time he let go of the bar. Then I was convinced he was going to completely blow the dismount. Then, because he was in second and there were two gymnasts still to go, I was convinced they were going to finish higher and knock him into fourth. I may have screamed a little when the last guy fell.

Also, shut up, Trautwig. There are journalists covering the Russian-Georgian conflict with less gravity, and when they say "life and death" they mean it literally.

I am finding Coke's Olympic ad campaign a little odd. First, there's the trippy LeBron-Yao ad, and the one with the weird cartoon birds building an Olympic stadium nest. Then there's the one where they talk about giving money to the Olympics and Special Olympics, with pictures of various athletes getting medals. Which at first glance is fine, except Michelle Kwan is included in the montage. And Michelle Kwan's Olympic experiences have fallen a bit short of the "achieving your dream" narration in the ad.

But the best one was the one I caught for the first time last night, which wasn't an Olympic themed ad, but instead talked about the history of Coca-Cola, and how "since the beginning it's been made with all-natural ingredients." Of course it didn't mention what one of those original ingredients happened to be, which made it even funnier when they used the phrase "a natural uplift since 1885" (or something, it was late). I guess "drug-free since 1929" doesn't quite have the same ring to it.
