The Times had a list of 101 Simple Salads up last week, so yesterday I took a walk down to the produce markets in my neighborhood and picked up the ingredients for #2. (Except they didn't have cilantro, so I substituted mint. And I just realized I forgot the red pepper flakes. It was excellent, anyway.) The price for three tomatoes, three peaches, a red onion, three cucumbers (for salad recipe #3) and a big bunch of fresh mint? Three dollars and fifty five cents. Plus, I got a nice walk on a glorious summer day.

I spent Friday night on the phone talking my parents through buying their plane tickets to come visit. I don't normally need to do that, but in this case I managed to prevent the booking of a return trip through O'Hare with a less than forty-five minute layover which was just asking for trouble. At any rate, they are coming the weekend after next and bringing Radio Brother, which will be awesome. But I'm warning all my New York friends now, my parents invariably visit on the hottest weekend of the summer, so make your plans accordingly.

Radio Brother has also finally found a new radio job! He is going to be the voice of the Sand Springs Sandites (a high school in the Tulsa area) this football season. Technically the games will be streaming on the Internet, not actually broadcasting on an analog radio station, but I'm not changing his psuedonym to Streaming Internet Brother. High school football in Oklahoma is no minor thing and the broadcasting job pool is hard to break into, so many congratulations to him.
