Books and other stuff I feel like discussing

By education and experience - Accountant with a specialty in taxation. Formerly a CPA (license has lapsed). Masters degree in law of taxation from University of Denver. Now retired. Part time work during baseball season as receptionist & switchboard operator for the Colorado Rockies. This gig feeds my soul in ways I have trouble articulating. One daughter, and four grandchildren. I share the house with two cats; a big goof of a cat called Grinch (named as a joke for his easy going "whatever" disposition); and Lady, a shelter adoptee with a regal bearing and sweet little soprano voice. I would be very bereft if it ever becomes necessary to keep house without a cat.

1000 Places in N America

Of course, I thumbed through the US and Canada version of 1000 PLACES TO SEE BEFORE YOU DIE by Patricia Schulz, and noted the ones I've visited.

I've been to 90. There are a few more that I took in on a trip to Washington DC when I was 12, but I remember very little about the actual destinations, so I didn't include those in my count.

I'm ashamed to say that there are quite a few in Iowa and Eastern Illinois which are an hour or less from where I grew up, and as a matter of fact my mother often expressed a desire to visit Van Buren County (one of the Iowa destinations listed) which was virtually in our back yard. At least when I was living in my childhood home, we never made it. Now it's a two day drive across the country.

I was pleased to see that Schulz listed a couple of islands on the South Carolina coast, but that she didn't list my favorite. That pleased me because the island is relatively unvisited, which makes a week or longer there a very pleasant stay. And no, I won't tell you which island it is!
