By education and experience - Accountant with a specialty in taxation. Formerly a CPA (license has lapsed). Masters degree in law of taxation from University of Denver. Now retired. Part time work during baseball season as receptionist & switchboard operator for the Colorado Rockies. This gig feeds my soul in ways I have trouble articulating. One daughter, and four grandchildren. I share the house with two cats; a big goof of a cat called Grinch (named as a joke for his easy going "whatever" disposition); and Lady, a shelter adoptee with a regal bearing and sweet little soprano voice. I would be very bereft if it ever becomes necessary to keep house without a cat.

What the - ? SEVEN in a row?

The Rockies have a seven game winning streak. I've been following intently (they've been playing on the road since June 1) but in classic superstitious style, have refrained from commenting, not wanting to jinx anything.

The season through the end of May was disappointing in the extreme, culminating with the owners removing Clint Hurdle from his position as manager and moving bench coach Jim Tracy into the manager's spot.

After a few games of same old, same old performance, some spark was ignited and seven games later they are on a roll like we haven't seen since the summer of 2007. Out of the basement in the NL West, and playing well against NL teams from the other divisions.

The one personal regret about the last couple of weeks is that the player draft began when the team was out of town. The atmosphere at the stadium is fun while the draft is in progress. Scouts arrive from all across the country, and various groups and conferences are scheduled steadily for several days. Some of the Latin American scouts are extremely easy on the eyes, which is a very nice little plus!

We'll see where we go from here. One more game in Milwaukee, and then they are back in town for some interleague play against the Mariners.
