By education and experience - Accountant with a specialty in taxation. Formerly a CPA (license has lapsed). Masters degree in law of taxation from University of Denver. Now retired. Part time work during baseball season as receptionist & switchboard operator for the Colorado Rockies. This gig feeds my soul in ways I have trouble articulating. One daughter, and four grandchildren. I share the house with two cats; a big goof of a cat called Grinch (named as a joke for his easy going "whatever" disposition); and Lady, a shelter adoptee with a regal bearing and sweet little soprano voice. I would be very bereft if it ever becomes necessary to keep house without a cat.

Well, that settles it

I've attended one Rockies game this season, a couple of weeks ago. Ubaldo Jimenez was pitching, and I hoped to see him get his club record 18th win. Although the Rockies did win, Jimenez got a no decision, courtesy of a fielding error in the top of the ninth.

Thinking that perhaps I needed one more afternoon at the ballpark before this season ended, I was on the verge of getting a ticket for the last home game. I've been at the home closer quite a few times over the years.

Today's mail brought a jury duty summons for Sept 29, the last home game of the current season. Rats!

We continue to lag in the wild card hunt. In 2007, the improbable run of an unbroken streak of games in September eventually took us to the World Series, so there remains a mathematical chance. Our performance on the road will need to be much, much better.
