Books and other stuff I feel like discussing

By education and experience - Accountant with a specialty in taxation. Formerly a CPA (license has lapsed). Masters degree in law of taxation from University of Denver. Now retired. Part time work during baseball season as receptionist & switchboard operator for the Colorado Rockies. This gig feeds my soul in ways I have trouble articulating. One daughter, and four grandchildren. I share the house with two cats; a big goof of a cat called Grinch (named as a joke for his easy going "whatever" disposition); and Lady, a shelter adoptee with a regal bearing and sweet little soprano voice. I would be very bereft if it ever becomes necessary to keep house without a cat.

Report from the writing front

I'm taking two classes, and it's going well, I think. One doesn't involve any homework, just in class writing exercises and optional sharing among those in attendance. The instructor finds something to praise in every offering, which I think is remarkable at times, and I admire her for rising to the challenge. One of the exercises I wrote brought me to tears, and while I talked about my effort I declined to read the whole thing. I later wished I had read it, because the next person to read DID tear up and spill over, and the others reacted with quiet understanding and acceptance.

The other class DOES involve some homework, and I looked over the assignment page last evening. I had the time estimate in my head of half an hour, and was a little surprised and more than a little relieved to see that she is asking for ten minutes. She's got a very interesting way of approaching the exercise in fairly specific steps.

Usually when I write, mostly here on the blog and in a few book reviews, I just sit down and bang away. Her steps are not exactly an outline technique, she describes them as "frames."

I'm going to have to give the whole thing a little thought later today. Class is Monday evening.
