By education and experience - Accountant with a specialty in taxation. Formerly a CPA (license has lapsed). Masters degree in law of taxation from University of Denver. Now retired. Part time work during baseball season as receptionist & switchboard operator for the Colorado Rockies. This gig feeds my soul in ways I have trouble articulating. One daughter, and four grandchildren. I share the house with two cats; a big goof of a cat called Grinch (named as a joke for his easy going "whatever" disposition); and Lady, a shelter adoptee with a regal bearing and sweet little soprano voice. I would be very bereft if it ever becomes necessary to keep house without a cat.

Fun

Cautiously, not wanting to jinx anything -

Rockies are now 11-2. A marvelous outing by pitcher Jhoulys Chacin, his first major league complete game, and a 6 hit shutout to boot. In the top of the eighth, TV cameras showed pitching coach Bob Apodaca going to the phone to get the bullpen up. Chacin responded by getting his third out.

So he got a very nice round of applause when he came out to the mound at the top of the ninth.

Catcher Chris Iannetta hit a triple in the bottom of the third with the bases loaded, and came home to score on a throwing error.

For us on the switchboard, our evening was enlivened by a technical glitch of some sort in the TV broadcast signal, which gave Root Sports viewers pictures but no sound. About 20 people called us, although what they thought the switchboard could do about it is beyond me.

The TV trucks in the media bay are one of the areas which I'm instructed never to call, unless it's a dire emergency. And I was pretty confident the techies down there know their jobs pretty well and were aware of the problem. So I called the press box supervisor, who went to one of the broadcast engineers, who called the truck to tell them viewers were calling US. Then, when the next bereft TV viewer called me, I could honestly say I had been in touch with Root Sports and everyone involved was aware of the issue.

I wanted to tell them to turn on the radio, but - - oh, never mind!

Time for bed.
