Books and other stuff I feel like discussing

By education and experience - Accountant with a specialty in taxation. Formerly a CPA (license has lapsed). Masters degree in law of taxation from University of Denver. Now retired. Part time work during baseball season as receptionist & switchboard operator for the Colorado Rockies. This gig feeds my soul in ways I have trouble articulating. One daughter, and four grandchildren. I share the house with two cats; a big goof of a cat called Grinch (named as a joke for his easy going "whatever" disposition); and Lady, a shelter adoptee with a regal bearing and sweet little soprano voice. I would be very bereft if it ever becomes necessary to keep house without a cat.

Designated for assignment

The Rockies announced last night just as the game was starting that Jamie Moyer is no longer on the active roster.

He ended his brief moment back in the sunshine of the major leagues with a 5.7 ERA in 53 innings pitched. He was a favorite with the local fans, and was greeted with very warm hearted ovations after each of his two wins, both at Coors Field. In addition to being the oldest pitcher to record a major league win, Eric pointed out a few days ago that he might also be the oldest player to get a hit and bat in two runs in the bargain.

And now I'm wondering about age related statistics in the Negro Leagues - I'm going to try to look that up.

It was nice while it lasted, unfortunately the whole pitching situation here in Colorado made this decision inevitable.
