So, I survived my job interviews. Better than survived, actually. I think they all went really well. Didn't get asked any really way out questions, didn't flub any crucial answers. I think I did a good job in both cases of putting to rest concerns about relative lack of experience in particular areas. I brought a copy of the software tutorial that I wrote recently to my interview at Company B, and I think it made a very favorable impression. (It probably helped that I had, completely unknowingly, adopted certain elements of Company B house style. Go me!)

Company B, the one I interviewed with yesterday, has asked me back for a second round of interviews sometime this coming week. Company A, interviewed with on Thursday, may be doing a second round of interviews, but it's more likely that they're just going to choose a few likely candidates and do background checks on them.

I think I would be happy at either job. Company B, though, is looking alarmingly close to my dream workplace. I would get to do really cool stuff, I would get to spend a lot of time hanging out with chemists and engineers, and the company has some very nice flex-time arrangements and things that make a for a very worker-friendly culture.

I think I have a good shot at the Company B job. I certainly have the science and technical background for it. I think that my writing sample shows that I have the writing skills. I did well in the first-round interview. (10 minutes into a 30 minute interview, my interviewer told me he'd already decided to ask me back for the second round. That took some of the pressure off.) I guess we'll see how I do on the next round of interviews.

So, I'll be brushing up on my FrameMaker and thinking of intelligent questions to ask the engineers over the next few days.

But today, I'm spending a lazy morning around the house. Later Daniel and I will go celebrate Marissa's new novel, and there will be coffee and noodles and gelato and much fun.
