The Battery Gods are Angry

This will be a quickish entry, I hope, since I'm at work, waiting for a Microsoft Word file to open so I can work on it. Some of these old Microsoft Word files take minutes to open for some reason.

Today's theme seems to be dead batteries. Got to the office today, and my computer (I'm borrowing my boss's laptop) started complaining that its battery was nearly dead. This was bizarre, since I keep it parked in a docking station which should have been providing AC power. Discovered that the power supply to the dock seemed to be non-functional. I spent 40 minutes undocking the computer, redocking the computer, plugging the power supply directly into the laptop -- no juice. Finally, I unplugged the power supply from the wall outlet and plugged it in again, and everything started working.

?

Then my cell phone battery died. I forgot to plug it in to charge it last night, and possibly the night before. I think I've been misinterpreting the battery gauge. It's a little picture of a battery with three squares in it which may be full or empty. Silly me, I thought that 3 squares = completely charged, 2 squares = 2/3 charged, and 1 square = 1/3 charged. Nope. Turns out that 3 squares = anywhere from fully charged to 90% depleted, 2 squares = wrap up your call quick, and 1 square = get out the coffee cans and string, 'cos that's the only way you're makin' a call.

Fortunately, I had spare batteries on hand for my portable CD player when the ones currently in it died, or today would have just been a total disaster.

Okay, time for me to get back to work. Hope you all had a good day. May your word processing files open quickly, and your batteries stay charged!
