Today's mail brought a check from my car insurance company, marked 'Deductible Reimbursement.'

There was no accompanying explanation or correspondence, but I'm gathering that this means that the insurance company of the other driver involved in my accident back in December has been persuaded that he was at fault and has coughed up the cash.

I feel tremendously vindicated by this, which is a little silly. But I really was afraid that the guy would somehow manage to escape the blame, and I'm glad that he's had to face some consequences (if only in the form of higher insurance rates) for driving like an idiot.

[I waved the check at Daniel and crowed, "This is all because of that great diagram of the accident scene that I drew! Never fuck with a tech writer!!" Actually, I'm sure the decision had more to do with probabilities - for the accident to be plausibly my fault, I would have had to run a red left turn arrow, and how often do people do that? But allow me my moment of professional pride.]

Getting to keep the "Exemplary Driver Discount" that my insurance company gives me is nice, too. (I used to just get a "Good Driver Discount", but now I'm apparently "Exemplary". This makes me wonder if there are even more exalted levels of drivership that I might attain. Or if there are corresponding levels of bad drivership that give you increasingly high rates.)
