Got my car windows de-tinted yesterday. I took it down to a shop, paid $40, and went across the street and had a cup of coffee and a bagel in a Barnes and Noble Starbucks. Came back 20 minutes later, and it was all done. I sorta feel like a wuss for not doing it myself, but I probably saved myself a whole lot of time and mess.

I miss the tint. Everything seems very bright when I drive around during the day. Too bright. I'm sure I'll get used to it eventually. (I'm sure I'll also stop scrutinizing every car I pass and scowling every time I see one with front side windows tinted. How do they get away with it? Roll the windows down every time they see a cop car?)

(I'm sure at some point in the future, we'll have electrical LCD-like films that can be applied as window tint. Then you could turn your tint on and off. That would be cool. Probably still illegal in California. But I digress.)

So, the next step in dealing with my ticket was to get it signed off by a police officer. I stopped by the Starbucks on Murphy Rd., because there are CHP and San Jose police officers there all the time. But none this morning. So, I went to the local CHP station, which is about a mile from where I work. Got the ticket signed off.

So, now I'm supposed to get something in the mail from the court, telling me what to do with the ticket. The officer who signed off on the ticket said I should get something in the mail 35 to 40 days from when the ticket was issued. The thing I don't quite get is that the ticket says I have 30 days to correct the violation. Huh? This all seems awfully low tech. As far as I know, the copy of the ticket I have with the police officers scribbles on it is the only existing record that I've fixed the ticket. I guess I'd better not lose it.

I'll call the court before my 30 days is up, just to check, I guess. More bureaucracy. Wheeeee!

I'm so sleepy lately. I think maybe I'm fighting off a virus or something (everybody around here is coming down with crud of various kinds). I slept for 9 hours last night. I'll probably do it again tonight.

That's my glamorous life lately: writing technical documentation, dealing with traffic tickets, playing PlayStation 2 games, reading Gene Wolfe's The Knight, and sleeping.

Speaking of which, I'm going to go wrassle with some online Help a little more before I head home. Talk to you later!
