Something fishy

So, I stopped by the PW last night to pick up some fish filets to cook for dinner. I was hoping for red snapper, but when I got to the fish counter, the only white fish filets they had were tilapia, catfish, and petrale sole. Apparently they had had some cod earlier, but it was gone by the time I got there. Oh, and I think they had one orange roughy filet left, but I've kind of gone off orange roughy.

I can't help but find it odd that, here I am, a stone's throw from the Pacific Ocean, and 2 out of 4 of my choices for white fish filets are farmed freshwater fish. And 1 of my 4 choices was probably imported from New Zealand (the roughy). I mean, I've got no problem with farmed fish (which is cheap, environmentally sustainable, and probably mercury free), or even imported fish, but something seems out of wack here.

I picked the catfish, took it home, slathered it with chopped cilantro, green olives, green onions, tomatoes and lemon juice, wrapped it up in aluminum foil, and baked it, and it was quite tasty.

Next time, though, I think I'll try the fish counter at 99 Ranch.
