Dog Commentary: Shelter Dogs

Okay, I admit JayJay, Lucy, Benji and Mandy were all bought by my mom and dad (with insistence on my part). I never owned a shelter dog in my life. But that doesn't mean I don't care about the shelter dogs. When I was a preteen, teenager and child it never occurred to me about how a ton of shelter dogs that don't find homes, so they get killed.

It also never occurred to me then about the shelter dogs going through a lot of things. Such as their previous so-called owners making them join in dogfights as well as physically abusing them in many other ways and/or neglecting the needs of the dogs too. The feeling of despair, sadness and confusion that the dogs experience, such as wondering if it's all their fault when really it's the bad owner's fault.

However, as an adult, I now know about "Petfinder". The sad stories from there, from mostly puppy mills breeding the dogs without caring about their health and giving them only the minimum food and water as well as locking them up in cages to some stories about owners giving up their pets because they "don't get along" with family members or other pets. This is why my family is going to adopt the next time after we get over a loss of a dog (Benji is 12-most "Shih Tzus" live to be in the eleven through fourteen range, Mandy is still just a puppy).

The point is, the shelter dogs need a home as well as vet care and grooming. The shelter dogs also need food and water, walks too. I want to help one of these shelter dogs, and adopt. You know, give the dog a chance it would never have otherwise. My other point is, please adopt your dogs- you could save a life that way.
