First things first. I'm free!!! School's out for summer (to quote some band or another). The year mostly ended well, there were a few bumps-read students whining about their grades- but all in all, not too bad. This year was pretty good, no major problems. One thing I wish I had was time and money to put together a super lab program. My students love labs and learn a lot from them, but I don't have tons of eqipment and that which I do have isn't in great shape for the most part. I had students catalog it-sort of but still have not organized it or anything. I might spend some time this summer working on it, but we'll see.

On the LB front, his first molars are just starting to poke through. Friday night when he was eating dinner, he shoved a piece of banana into his mouth and bit down and started crying. I didn't know what the problem was, but thought it might be teeth. Lo and behold Saturday morning I noticed a molar poking through, and checked the other side and one was there too. Nothing on the top yet. We'll see if he does this batch like the first batch, 5 teeth in 1 month, and the next 2 in the next month. He doesn't seem to be super cranky about getting them though-thank goodness.

And then there's swim class. He seems to be OK with the water, not thrilled, but has fun and splashes. It was cold on Saturday morning this week, so he was cold (as we all were) but we all survived. He surprised me though. Towards the end of class I was just holding him with the water level up to his neck. Then he suddenly ducked his head forward and put his whole face into the water momentarily. He didn't sputter or anything when he came back out, so I'm guessing he intended to do it, but it took me by surprise. Getting kids to put their faces in the water is one thing we work towards in class. We don't force it but we (the adults) do it and hope that the kids will copy us-sooner or later. I'm very pleased with the class-they really seem to be teaching us and the kids useful skills-how to hold onto the wall, how to climb out, when it's OK to jump back into the water, and stuff like that. We also have fun. I'm glad we're taking the class and I'm pleased that LB will be learning to swim at a relatively young age.

Here's some pics of Phil and LB at the pool about a week ago.

Some people with IE had trouble seeing the LB & Cleo (my parents' German Shepherd) pictures. I'm not sure what's going on there, but if you go to the picture location, then it'll show up in the journal too. If you know why this is happening, let me know. Thanks.

OK, that's our update for today.
