Listening: Gilt, Machines of Loving Grace
I'd rather be: independently wealth
Desiring: a massage

QUESTIONS FROM YAGA

1. What song will you totally rock out to, if given the opportunity?
Heh. if you ask my coworkers the answer would be all of them. I enjoy my music and there's no point in listening without throwing myself into the love. Really just calm down when I have to really concentrate, but otherwise I'm commonly found to be air conducting, smacking out rhythms on my keyboard/steearing wheel, lip syncing and nearly always nodding away to the righteous sounds flooding my ears.

Favorites include:
Machines of Loving Grace
Tool
Tori Amos
Ruby
Beethoven
PJ Harvey
Ella Fitzgerald
Bjork
Soul Coughing
Rage Against the Machine

2. What's your most memorable black-box theatre experience?
hm. Well there is a myriad of classes that I've had in boxes that were very cool. But you probably want performances:
Probably when I assist-directed a play by Karen Finely. It was crazy and slightly out there, art-wise, and quite the learning experience.

3. What food do you secretly loathe?
dunno. I don't think I've ever actually had grits but they don't sound especially tasty. I think of that as a secret cause other Coyote will hate me. *smirk*

Non-secretly loathed food is asperagus. That's not so much bad food as I had a nasty incident where I choked on some pretty bad and I'm wary of it now. Also don't like peanuts for a similar reason - I don't care for the sensation of eating them + they once made me very sick.

4. What is your favorite play to go and see? Would you ever want to do your own production of it?

Heh, bet you couldn't guess this: Rosencrants and Guildenstern are Dead. I'm always hoping the production will be different and challenging. I'm rarely let down for all the different nuances available within it.

Again, I would be scared to direct it. I'd feel like there's a lot to live up to and wouldn't want to touch it without more experience under my belt.

5. If you could olny speak English or Spanish for the rest of your life, which would you choose?
Spanish.

QUESTIONS FROM THEA

1) How has your view of religion grown, changed, or matured over the years?

When I was a kid religion was just what you did, even when I came to understand there were people who really don't do religion I couldn't really hold that in my head as anything real beyond not going to church or whatever.

Now I've come to the conclusion that there is a fundamental difference between faith and religion. Religion involves measurable tangibles: going to church, praying out loud, holding hands during services, etc. Faith, belief, that stuff is intensely personal. I tend to get uncomfortable talking or writing about it, even with other people who I think also believe.

Personally I've never stopped believing there is something, some power that put everything in motion, but I never really cared if he/she/it is still guiding things. If anything that force has moved on in its creation so that it only gets back to us when we supplicate it (yes I believe in miracles and prayer). I've never allowed the lack of apparent attention to affect my faith, but I have to tell you that "not allowing" has been very passive. In many ways my faith has never been tested. This is a function of just letting things be and understanding that there are no promises for this world.

2) Is there any one event from your life that you can say is a pivotal point that made you who you are today?

um... my childhood? Oh, and plus college. Yes, my childhood plus college, equal me, as I am now. };>

Narrowed down just a little, Theory of Knowledge from high school. A strange class my high school offered that taught the basics of metaphysics with some other odd bits of philosophy-in-practise thrown in. But that only includes the one side.

Other things that I can't narrow down are:
being Catholic, the oldest of five kids, and my dad

3) Be completely honest. 10 million dollars falls into your lap. The top 10 things that you would use that money for would be...

1. pay off my debt
2. buy my mom's house (from her)
3. fix up said house and potentially move friends who are undergoing hardship into it
4. if there is any money left purchase a black box theatre in LA
5. make a plan for the next few steps, then quit my job
6. strategize an investment plan & execute it
7. seriously investigate going for an MFA someplace (hopefully locally)
8. administer, potentially build a theatre troupe for my black box
9. seriously investigate or create a newsletter of live theatre for Los Angeles
10. Since at this pace the money *will* run out sooner than later, figure out how to pay my bills between the newsletter and/or productions. Or make sure the copywriting gigs are still available.

(There might also be a few sundry extras like getting a server, going on vacation, but I would try to stick the Plan. It's stuff I regularly daydream about.)

4) What is it specifically about Tori Amos that draws you to her as a fan?

That she totally throws herself into her music and that she writes with such complete sincerity I feel there is some commonality between. It may be illusory, but it makes me feel better about my life so what the hay?

Also she's a good musician, and as a personality I always enjoy the way she gives as good as she takes during interviews. I admire her life and feel I can enjoy her work as something deeply true, something that wasn't manufactured and targetted to my age group.

5) Provided you had ample time to prepare, what would your ideal last meal on earth be?
goodness.

The time I would need would be to eat it all, not just prep! I would want albondiga and wanton soup to start. A garden salad with honey mustard dressing, Irish nachos and a guacamole dip. This gets washed down with pink lemonade.

Then my mom's spaghetti, some meatloaf and lasagna from Angelo & Vinci's. some side dishes of terryaki chicken, steamed rice with soy sauce, corn tortillas, wild rice and mashed beans. Chicken picatta and frideo. Oh, and a New York steak from Lone Star. To be washed down with some good red wine.

And once I'm done throwing up dessert (apparently I'm going Roman here): Baklava from Continental Burger, pumpkin pie with whipped cream, mexican hot chocolate with sweet bread.

mmmh hungry....
