2004-03-25 10:00 PM Weekend from Hell
Well, Last week was a fun work week (insert sarcasm here). Thursday, I learned that the promotions department was headed on a road trip Friday. It seems that one of the stars of the WB show One Tree Hill, decided to have a cast charity football game. Sooo.. Kim decided that we should all go down there. Do a couple interviews, and have some of them do “Tags”. A tag is when you see someone on the TV, and they say “Hi, I'm (insert name here) and you are watching Raleigh's WB22”. Well, I'm the unofficial photographer, and equipped with my Canon 10D, I got to go too. So Friday, the promotions department and one news reporter head out for the 2 hour drive to Wilmington NC around 12:30. With a quick lunch stop, we got there around 3ish. (I took the wife's nice new Jeep liberty - a highly comfortable vehicle for someone who is 6'5”)
I tell you what - I'm amazed at how people go so apeshit over TV personalities. I must be the most non-star struck person on the planet. One day at work, the station was blessed with the presence of Ron Lester. Ron Lester was the big guy on the WB show “Popular”. He was in a weight loss program at Duke, but needed to tape his tryout for the casting for the movie “Dude, where's my car”. So he came to us to help him with the taping. Well, I'm sitting in my office, and my phone rings.. “Art Department” “Hi, This is Ron Lester from the WB show “Popular” “Yea?” Then there was a moment of silence, as if he was confused that I wasn't more excited to see him… Then he said again… “Hi, This is Ron Lester from the WB show “Popular” And I said… “Yea? So…?” “Umm.. Do you have any sharpie pens I could borrow?” “Sure, send someone down to come get them”. It was hilarious the way this guy had a group of people following him around the station. One girl who worked upstairs, somehow managed to get him to ask her out, and they became a “thing” for a while. (Whenever I see her, I think “Ewww… She had sex with Ron Lester!” ) So anyway, It was quite funny, taking pictures of these people Friday, and not really caring who they were. Did get a nice shi-shi dinner out of the trip though, but didn't get home Friday night till 11:30. You can see my highly amateur photos from Friday here..
Well, you'd think that after that, that I would have a nice relaxing Saturday.. Well Noooo! Saturday was the local “America's Next Top Model” casting call. Basically, a whole bunch of girls show up with photos of themselves, and do a 3 minute taped interview that we send to UPN. (Rules are here for those two of you that actually read this blog..)
