More storm pics

Unless otherwise noted, all storm-related pictures on this site are copyright 2005 St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office.

I spoke to someone yesterday who told me that a friend of theirs had flown into the area and made the comment about how she was surprised that so many people had swimming pools. "Those aren't swimming pools," the person was told. "Those are blue roofs. The swimming pools are black."

The corps of engineers and FEMA came through after the storm and put blue tarps on roofs with damage. This picture gives a bit of an idea of how many roofs took damage from Katrina. (These pictures are, again, from Slidell.)

This is the I-10 bridge across Lake Pontchartrain. They're already at work repairing it, though they're only trying to get one span open at this time.

This was Our Lady of Lourdes school before the hurricane. Yes, this is one of the pictures that I took when I was doing my aerial photography.

This is Our Lady of Lourdes school after the storm.

This is Salmen High School before.

This is Salmen High School after. It doesn't have as much obvious damage from this viewpoint, but just look at all the mud in the parking lot. This school had well over 6 feet of water in it.

There's a shrimp boat in the middle of the land here.

Once upon a time a house stood here. Every house on this street was destroyed completely. And no, this was not waterfront property, but the surge still wiped them out.

Just a sample of the debris fields.
