And some more...

Unless otherwise noted, all storm-related pictures on this site are copyright 2005 St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office

This is the sheriff's office training facility, which was turned into a shelter/dormitory for deputies after the storm. Many of the deputies who lost everything continued to live there after regular shifts were resumed.

When gas is $3 a gallon...

There was little tolerance for looters. Many many neighborhoods and houses had spray painted signs saying things on the order of, "You loot, we shoot." Our neighborhood had a big sign saying, "We have lots of guns and will use them!" These people were not looting to survive. They were looting because they are the scum of the earth, taking advantage of a disaster to go into people's houses--many of which were already damaged--and taking whatever they could find that could be considered of value.

Beware of the real estate listing that describes a house as having an "open floor plan."

That's one form of dry dock.

Trees turned these houses into duplexes. (These were taken in Mandeville--my side of the parish.)

And a nice shaded lot.

The herculean task of cleanup will be going on for quite some time.
