I don't believe my body is ready for winter. A cold mass of air drifted through yesterday. I sat out in my favorite Adirondack to get my daily dose of Vitamin D, but even with heavier coat on I felt a chill come over me. I like October much more than I do November. Sunlight comes in at a lower angle and doesn't stay as long as I would like. A grove of redwood trees blocks some of the best light of the day. I can find other places to move about on the property that do not lie in this shadow, but when a cool wind comes off the ocean, as happened yesterday, I go indoors to read. I would rather be out.

The Galaxy tablet PC has allowed me some freedom from the desk. I thought mobile computing was a goofy idea, but now, as with my Kindle, I am understanding the virtue of being able to pick up and move some of the little reading, writing and art projects I work on. I am just beginning to understand how one can draw and paint with this tiny portable computer. I don't know that my art projects will ever receive much recognition, but the software tools one can download tease me into thinking I can become a digital artist.

The deYoung museum in San Francisco is currently featuring the digital paintings of David Hockney, who has done these paintings on an iPad, using his finger as a paint brush. I don't sense the feel of real paint and canvas when working with the tablet PC. The gestures I make with my finger or stylus still feel clumsy as I run them across the slick and shiny screen. The colors and shapes that appear with such magic ease make me want to play more with the media.
