What's this? Some kind of Journal?

Mood:
Happy

So, a month and a half, and many many events later, Thea finally decides to make an entry into her journal. Woo hoo!

Okay, Christmas is almost here. (Erik, my b/f is actually out RIGHT NOW getting a gift for me. I have zero clue what he even has in mind to get for me.

I got him something fairly cool. His birthday is the day after Christmas, so I kinda put two gifts into one, and got him Broadway.

Of course, there's no way to take Broadway and wrap it up in a nice little box with a ribbon, so I took him to New York with me for my vacation. Wow. It was really awesome.

I will have to break up the trip in a few entries. I know I know, I have promised multiple entry trip journals in the past and never put out, but I will this time.

Anyways, we mainly went to New York for the shows, everything else was just a perk. We went to where the towers fell, but that's a mood for a different entry. Tonight, I want to talk about the shows.

Show 1, The Producers, 26 dollars a ticket to what I think are the best seats in the house (actually, it was standing room, but right in the middle behind the orchestra, eye level to the actors)

OMG, Nathan Lane and Matthew Broadrick, singing, dancing, buxom Swedish blonds, cross dressers, music only Mel Brooks would be clever enough to write, and "Springtime for Hitler" as one of the many show stoppers. Wow. The cast was dynamite. They must have a BLAST every show! I have so much more respect for Nathan Lane as a performer. Wow. The only thing that sucked was that he didn't come out and sing my book. Matthew Broadrick did though. :) :) :) He was really nice. I have pictures.

Show 2, Beauty and the Beast
Very beautiful. The music that wasn't from teh movie itself was really great. The set was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. The performances were great, I was literally in tears after the Beast's songs (yes, he gets a song, and a lot more character than Disney gave him in the movie) and Gaston was so wickedly cool.

Show 3, Urinetown
Thats right, Urinetown. It was hilarious. It was self relexive in a way no Broadway show dares to be. Um, I can't even find the words to describe it all. I'd say GO SEE IT, but I know not everyone can just run up to New York to see it.

Show 4, The Rocky Horror SHow
Very clever, awesome performance. Terrance Mann (played Franky, he was the original Broadway Beast and the original Broadway Javier from Les Mis) was amazing. They had so much fun. I didn't think a Broadway cast or show would DARE to be so inviting to, yes, audience participation, but the cast ate it up!

I just have to say on a side note that Sebastian Bach (yes, from Skid Row, he played Riff) was the nicest guy from a show that I've ever met. Not only did he come back when he saw people waiting, but he made security let us back into the lobby due to rain (security wasn't too happy with him but what can you do with a rocker like that) and signed stuff, took pictures, talked, and just kinda hung out.It was really neat.

All in all I think I'm spoiled, and want to go to shows every chance I get now. I think this quenched my soul's burining passion for musicals that Moulin Rouge did so many months ago, at least, for now. I hope to go back soon, but I doubt plane tickets will stay this low forever (150 a ticket, round trip)

Oh, and by the way, if you are ever in Central Park, in the winter, and you stop to make a phone call, it's generally good to remember to gather your personal belongings (glove, open wallet, calling card) after making that call instead of running back to the phone a half hour later when you've finally noticed that your hand is cold.

New York, what a place.

Nopw, back to the more important things. Laundry, and cleaning my apartment.

And then maybe some more tooling around on the computer.

:)
