So there have been bits of time over the past several days where I'm at work, at my desk, waiting for things to do, and a bit bored. Surrounding these times I'm franticly working on things, so it is a real up and down. Currently, as I switched shifts with a workmate, I realize how slow it can be in the evenings when there isn't anything particularly exciting happening. We're all moved into the new data center, and no current technical issues need to be babysat.

So now, it's all about the updates baby.

First and foremost... NASCAR: A Summary

  • There we were, three girls, one guy, a fair amount of geeky energy surrounding us, riding in a PT Cruiser from Los Angeles into... the 909. There was chat, and music, and Jack in the Box.
  • Population of Fontana must have doubled during this event. Holy crap were there a lot of people... and they all wanted to park too, at the same time.
  • Winner of the No Professional Would Ever Own That License Plate Frame: "The more hair I lose, the more head I get."
  • Quote: "I'd sleep with a guy with a grill like that" (referring to the huge silver flames front grill on a truck, and quote was not mine)
  • Bandanna, boots, tats, hair, you HAD to see this chick. She was 909 poster child.
  • We got to sit next to this guy... he was the soccer hooligan of Nascar. I think he was a tweeker too. Dude was all over the place. Fuckin psycho.
  • Nascar races can be repetitive (250 laps and all) but there were some really pretty cool times during the race. We got to see at least one really close call (didn't realize how close until playback on TV at Hooters) some smoke, some flames, and it was really loud. Fun times!
  • I have now tried all of the following in jerky or stick form: kangaroo, elk, pheasant, ostrich, alligator, buffalo, wild boar, venison, antelope, and one other weird one that I cannot recall.
  • Walking back to the car we got to see an awesome redneck fight. Driving out of the parking lot we caught a few glimpses of some porn that was being watched in the back of a van by a group of guys. It was just two hot girls making out, but my assumption was that they just started watching it as the race had just let out.
  • You know you're a geek when you try to go by the printed out LJ community thread of who to cheer for and who to jeer, and then you eventually give up and follow #42 just because it's #42.
  • Ah... Hooters... the great wrap up of our themed day.

In other news, Saturday was wonderful, spent with friends who I hardly get to really hang out with, people who I wish I had the opportunity to hang out with more, and I got to see a lot of Long Beach that I've never seen before. The harbor was really cool. Went for sushi which I always love to do. It was really nice. Late into the evening the boys grabbed me so we could go past Pendleton to say goodbye to someone who is by now on his way to Iraq. I was not clear on exactly who they were talking about until I got there and put the name to the face. I'm glad I got a chance to go and join them in celebration before his send-off. Sure, I got home at 6am and was up at 8 for Nascar, but whatchagonna do. :)
